Can you buy school trip insurance?

A school trip is an exciting event in every student’s life. Even one-day trips can be so much fun that the day of departure remains a vivid memory for children for years to come. As parents, we are often more willing to let our children go on school trips than on summer camps – after all, at school the supervisors know their students well, and the children know each other. It is natural to worry more about our children’s safety when we cannot personally watch over them. Often this is the moment when we decide to look for insurance that will help us financially in case our child has an accident during the trip. Child Accident Insurance (NNW Dziecka) is a perfect choice as school trip insurance – it applies not only at school but also everywhere outside of it, including both private and school trips.

How much does school trip insurance cost?

Child Accident Insurance (NNW Dziecka), which also covers school trips, is available in three different variants, ranging from PLN 39 to PLN 139. Depending on the chosen package, the scope and insured amounts may vary. The basic benefits included in every variant are primarily daily hospital allowance due to illness or accident, rehabilitation, and compensation for health impairment. These benefits can be used if, during a trip, a child breaks an arm or a leg – then compensation can be claimed based on the percentage of health impairment and the daily hospital allowance if the child stayed in the hospital for more than 16 hours. In the case of illness during the trip that requires hospitalization, e.g. food poisoning, the daily allowance due to illness will be paid if the child stays in the hospital for at least 5 days. The scope of Child Accident Insurance is very broad – a one-time benefit of PLN 150 can be received even if there is no permanent impairment, but a minor accident occurs. Regardless of the type of trip, school trip insurance may prove very useful. The price list for Child Accident Insurance is as follows: PLN 39, 50, 75, and 139. The package for PLN 75 offers the best balance between price and coverage. Each package works as school trip accident insurance, but it should be remembered that the compensation paid from the cheapest package may not be satisfactory. Is school trip insurance mandatory?

Having accident insurance (NNW) for school trips is not mandatory in Poland. If the school trip takes place within the country, there is no requirement to purchase insurance for children. However, if the trip is abroad, school trip insurance becomes mandatory. In that case, the school must provide travel insurance that covers the costs of transport back to the country, medical assistance abroad, or medical rescue, e.g. from a mountain trail.
