School accident insurance is often bought at the beginning of the school year and associated with protection only at school. However, it offers much more than that.

Is school insurance mandatory?

Accident insurance is not mandatory. It is voluntary and can be purchased by parents. There is a misconception that parents must buy the policy offered at school. Accident insurance for children can be purchased online independently, choosing coverage and sums. School-proposed insurance often has narrow coverage and low compensation. A good school accident policy can be purchased at any time of year and is valid worldwide during its term. Accident insurance is usually annual and must be renewed manually.

School insurance and hospitalization

A key event covered is hospitalization. The best policies cover hospital stays due to illness or accident. Daily benefits are paid per day, but conditions vary. Usually a minimum hospital stay is required: 5 days for illness, 16 hours for accidents. Insurers also cap maximum payouts. The best school insurance covers serious illnesses with high lump-sum benefits. Coverage details are listed in each insurer’s terms. Broad coverage increases the chance of higher compensation. In children’s accident insurance, treatment and rehabilitation are treated as separate events, each up to PLN 8,000 compensation.
