Baby insurance – is it worth buying?

Newborn Insurance

It may seem that for a small child who is rarely left without adult supervision, accident insurance (NNW) for an infant would be completely unnecessary. Nothing could be further from the truth – parents often do not realize how broad the coverage of accident insurance can be and in how many situations it may turn out to be very useful. Accident insurance for an infant can be purchased from the very first moments after the child’s birth. The policy and coverage are then valid for the entire year; after that, it will need to be renewed, as accident insurance is not automatically extended. Regarding the scope of protection, accident insurance for an infant covers incidents that occurred anywhere in the world, regardless of the day or time – the insurance reimburses medical expenses in Poland regardless of the circumstances of the accident. However, it is always worth checking before purchase that the insurance does not contain territorial exclusions (e.g. for comprehensive protection when traveling abroad, it will be necessary to purchase good travel insurance).

Accident Insurance for Infants – What Does It Cover?

Accident insurance for infants protects against the consequences of accidents. An accident is defined as an event that occurred due to causes beyond the control of the insured and which may result in permanent or temporary health impairment. Accident insurance for infants protects against costs related to health impairment, medical care, rehabilitation, surgeries, and all necessary procedures required in the treatment process. Although newborns and very young children are not especially exposed to accidents – especially while they are less independent and remain under constant parental care – it is still worthwhile to have accident insurance for an infant. Why? Because it also provides protection in case of illnesses, whether serious or minor. In the first months of life, newborns do not have a fully developed immune system like older children. For this reason, frequent infections and illnesses are the daily reality for many new parents. The problem becomes even more serious when a child begins attending nursery or kindergarten, where frequent contact with peers increases exposure to infectious diseases. Accident insurance for infants includes hospitalization and serious illness benefits. A child hospitalized for an extended period due to illness is entitled to a daily allowance, the amount of which depends on the selected package option. It is important to carefully check the policy terms, as for hospitalization, a minimum number of days in the hospital may be required, as well as a maximum compensation limit.

Accident insurance for infants can be freely renewed after the policy ends. It is advisable to maintain continuity of this insurance, as children grow more active and curious, and therefore more prone to accidents. Child accident insurance is not only assistance in tragic, serious cases but also financial support even for minor incidents. Child accident insurance, also referred to as school accident insurance, guarantees benefits even for a doctor’s visit without health impairment, as well as in cases of bruises, sprains, dislocations, and fractures. Accident insurance also covers the replacement of medical equipment damaged in an accident and the costs of equipment needed for recovery. The scope of accident insurance for infants and older children also includes reimbursement of rehabilitation and surgical procedures. It is necessary to collect medical documentation of all treatments and visits the child undergoes. Based on referrals and medical notes, the insurer will decide on compensation, as all procedures must result from an accident.

What Insurance Besides Accident Insurance for Infants?

As a complement to accident insurance for infants, private health insurance for infants is a good solution. Both policies will provide comprehensive protection for the child, complementing each other. Private health insurance will be useful in the long term, for example, if a child has allergies, frequently gets sick, and requires regular doctor visits. Private insurance will be a great convenience, helping to avoid waiting times for appointments. School accident insurance, on the other hand, is indispensable in case of sudden accidents and their consequences.
