Electric scooters have recently been gaining more and more popularity. An increasing number of people on the streets are using this means of transport. Perhaps your child already owns one, having received it as a birthday, communion, or Christmas gift. They are surely very happy with it and eagerly ride the scooter to school, extracurricular activities, or to meet friends. That is why, as parents, we must not forget about insuring such a scooter.
A scooter is very easy to use, takes up little space, is convenient to carry, and does not pollute the air. Certainly, a lot of time was spent choosing the right scooter, so it is equally important to devote time to choosing the right insurance.
What insurance should be purchased for an electric scooter? An electric scooter can be insured as equipment when purchasing home insurance – you can then add an appropriate rider to the policy. Such coverage protects the scooter against theft and random events. A scooter left unattended becomes an easy target for thieves. Children sometimes carelessly leave their belongings in random places to play with friends – a thief may take advantage of this moment of inattention.
The person using the scooter should also have insurance. Not only can the scooter itself be damaged, but the rider may also suffer health damage or be held responsible for a collision. Therefore, if a child uses an electric scooter, parents should definitely have personal liability insurance (OC). A minor cannot have their own liability insurance, but they are covered under their parents’ policy. This insurance can be used if the child scratches a car with the scooter or causes a collision with another road user.
A child riding a scooter should also have accident insurance (NNW), e.g., Child Accident Insurance (NNW Dziecka). In case of a fall from the scooter or another accident, accident insurance will cover medical, hospitalization, or rehabilitation costs.
Riding an electric scooter is a lot of fun, but also a source of stress for parents, as inattentive riding can easily lead to a collision or theft. Therefore, in addition to teaching a child basic road safety rules, as responsible parents we should also ensure both the child and the scooter are insured.
